What can I expect during my ear wax removal appointment?
- Preliminary discussion of symptoms, any relevant medical history medications etc.
- Examination of the ears (otoscopy) using professional medical grade ear inspection equipment.
- Discussion of findings, whether this be ear wax, suspected ear infection, or any other issues which may be contributing to the reported symptoms.
- Explanation of the procedure, either micro suction or irrigation. Both methods are offered, however the appropriate method is determined following assessment, however client preference is also taken into account.
- If ear wax is found and can be removed at that visit, we can proceed to the ear wax removal. Typically this can take up to 20 minutes (often much less) but this can vary depending on the complexity of the presenting problem.
- If the ear wax is particularly dry and/or impacted, I may recommend that we defer the removal procedure while you use an olive oil spray such as Earol for around a week to soften the wax. In such cases, only the £30 examination fee will apply at that visit, with the balance of the wax removal fee payable on the follow up appointment once the ear wax has been removed.
- During the wax removal process, if you are finding it uncomfortable for any reason or just want a break, of course this can be accommodated.
- The ear/s will be re-examined during the process to verify that is has been successfully removed.
- You’ll be given advice about caring for your ears and reducing the likelihood of future ear wax problems.
How much does ear wax removal cost in Milton Keynes and North Bedfordshire?
- – Ear examination only (I will always examine both ears). If no ear wax is found, I will only charge an ear examination fee and signpost you towards the appropriate next steps : £30
- – Removal of ear wax if only found in one ear : £50.
- Removal of ear wax in both ears if found : £75.
If ear wax is found and removed, whether later on or at the same appointment, the initial consultation fee is included as part of the subsequent ear wax removal fee.
